PIA Award Winning Terminal
Sep 24, 2013
Peoria, IL — The Illinois Public Airports Association has named the General Wayne A. Downing Peoria International Airport as the 2013 recipient of its Outstanding Achievement Award. The Metropolitan Airport Authority of Peoria received this award in recognition of the successful new terminal opened in 2011 and the record levels of passenger activity that the terminal has helped to generate.
“The new terminal helped us attract new service to Atlanta and Fort Myers/Punta Gorda, Florida, which helped us achieve a new annual passenger record in 2012 and is helping us run over 3% above that level this year,” said Gene Olson, Director of Airports for the Airport Authority. “Central Illinois travelers praise the new facility because of its attractiveness and passenger-friendly layout. The airlines are enthusiastic about it because of its streamlined operational efficiency and reliability of its amenities, like heat and air conditioning”, Olson said.
The Outstanding Achievement award was presented to the Airport Authority by the Ilinois Public Airports Association (IPAA) at their annual conference yesterday in Galena, Illinois. The IPAA promotes the development, construction, and maintenance of publicly-owned airports throughout the state. The Outstanding Achievement Award represents recognition of significant airport achievements by industry peers within Illinois.
