TSA Travel Tips

  • Peak travel periods will occur on a daily basis. These daily peaks are expected to occur between 5:00 AM and 7:00 AM and between 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM. Airline officials recommend that you arrive at Eppley well in advance of your scheduled departure time. Check with your airline in advance to determine the status of your flight.
  • Passengers may be dropped off curbside on the front terminal drive, but no parking or waiting is allowed. Wheelchair attendants, airline personnel and police officers may be available to assist passengers with special needs (wheelchairs, etc.).
  • Vehicles cannot be left unattended on the front drive at ANY time. Unattended vehicles are ticketed and towed immediately.
  • All vehicles entering the airport are subject to search.
  • Remote parking is available and shuttle buses carry patrons to and from the terminal building.
  • Carry a photo ID on your person at all times.
  • Only ticketed passengers are allowed through the security screening checkpoints to go to the gate areas. Persons meeting arriving passengers should meet them in the main terminal building or baggage claim areas.  Please check the passenger's airline for exceptions.
  • All electronic devices (cell phones, laptop computers, pagers, PDA's, etc.) are x-rayed at the security screening checkpoints. Accessible property processing through the screening checkpoint is limited to one bag plus one personal item (purse, briefcase, laptop, etc.) per passenger. Medical assistance items (crutches, wheelchairs, etc.) are exempt from this requirement.
  • Remove all metal objects and electronic devices (jewelry, watches, pens, belts, coins, cell phones, PDA's, pagers, etc.) from your person before passing through the screening magnetometers. Passengers may be asked to remove items including footwear, jackets and hats so they can be inspected by screening personnel.
  • Certain items are not permitted to be carried through the checkpoint on a person or in carry-on baggage. This includes metal scissors with pointed tips, knives of larger blade length and type, multi-tools, straight razors, toy weapons, box cutters, mace, pepper spray, etc. These types of items are confiscated at the security checkpoints. These and similar items may be placed in checked baggage. Please visit the TSA website for current listing on prohibited items.
  • Do not leave baggage or other personal belongings unattended.
  • Be aware that passenger security screening can be time consuming.
  • Checkpoint wait time monitors located throughout the terminal

PIA Marijuana Policy

As of January 1, 2020, Illinois law allows for individuals 21 years of age or older to possess up to 30 grams of cannabis flower, 500 mg of THC in a cannabis-infused product (edibles) and 5 grams of cannabis concentrate for personal consumption. However, travelers and airport guests should be aware that Transportation Security Administration (TSA) screening stations are under federal jurisdiction. Also, passengers should be aware that marijuana laws vary state by state and they are encouraged to check the laws of the states to which they plan to travel. If passengers choose to travel with cannabis products in either their carry-on or checked baggage, they should be aware that TSA may make a Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) referral. The LEO may inspect the cannabis products and make a determination if the product complies with Illinois laws and regulations. If there is no violation of Illinois law, the passenger will be allowed to retain their legal property and bard the aircraft. Passengers are reminded that they must still comply with TSAs “3-1-1” rule regarding liquids, gels and aerosols and their containers. Passengers who choose to travel with cannabis products should allow extra time in the screening process so the LEO referral does not cause them to miss their flights.
