PIA Tops Passenger Record Set In 2012 And Sets New December Record

Peoria, IL—Officials from the General Wayne A. Downing Peoria International Airport (PIA) are pleased to announce that 2013 was once again a record breaking year for passengers departing and arriving at the facility. PIA also set a new record for the month of December.

A total of 592,101 arriving and departing passengers used the airport in 2013; that is a 2% increase over 2012’s record of 580,530. December passenger total was 48,174 passengers, which eclipsed the old monthly record by 5.7%.

“We saw gains in the number of passengers using Delta Airlines from PIA, notably with Atlanta service,” said Gene Olson, Director of Airports. “We also saw strong gains by Allegiant, especially on service to Florida.” He went on to state, “I would like to thank the communities of Central Illinois for utilizing PIA air service. Your patronage will help to ensure that the service is available in the future.”

The Airport Authority is looking forward to another good year in 2014. Capital projects include plans for a new control tower; a customs building that will maintain the Port of Entry status for the community and provide additional gate space; and future growth in air service.
