Passenger Numbers Continue to Soar at PIA
Jul 18, 2014
Peoria, IL – The General Wayne A. Downing Peoria International Airport (PIA), an industry leader in travel for Central Illinois, has recorded the highest monthly passenger count in its history with 59,373 passengers traveling through the airport in June 2014. This number is nearly a 10% increase compared to the same period last year.
After particularly brutal winter months in 2014, PIA has been setting passenger records since March. The airport’s traveler total was well over 230,000 during the past 4 months.
'The extraordinary passenger numbers in June are a real milestone that shows our efforts are working to give PIA’s customers great destinations, choice of competitive fares and an easy travel experience", said Gene Olson, Director of Airports. 'Any growth in today’s economic climate is a plus, but to have alltime record passenger numbers is especially rewarding. The Peoria International Airport is proud to be a major economic engine for the region and grateful to Central Illinoisans for so often choosing PIA as their preferred airport", said Olson.
The 4 recent record months represent an 8 percent increase in passenger travel over March, April, May and June in 2013. All 10 of PIA’s current destinations have strong numbers. Most popular connecting hubs to and from PIA are Chicago, Atlanta and Dallas.
Travelers are enjoying the ease of travel at the Peoria International Airport as well as the accessibility
prior to arrival; online with a newly redesigned website at FLYPIA.com, on Facebook and Twitter. PIA
was named Airport of the Year in 2014 by the Illinois Department of Transportation Division of
Aeronautics.
