Additional road construction changes start Monday

PEORIA, IL -- Additional portions of the airport entrance road and a section of the main parking lot will be closed starting Monday as work begins on a drainage improvement project.

"Due to the natural slope of our main parking lot, we've had issues with erosion. This work, which could take up to two months, will hopefully solve those problems," said Gene Olson, Director of Airports for the Metropolitan Airport Authority of Peoria. "We will need to use a small area of the parking lot for staging construction equipment, but we have more than 3,300 parking spaces so it won't be an issue."

Earlier this month, segments of the entrance road were reduced to one lane to allow for construction traffic as work resumed on the airport's terminal apron reconstruction project.

"We'll have two separate construction projects ongoing. We will do our best to have easy to understand directional signage, but we do ask that our travelers have a little patience and perhaps allow themselves just a bit more time to find a parking spot this summer."

Signs, directing traffic, will be posted, but passengers can call 309-697-8272, ext. 110 to reach airport operations staff if they have questions or problems.
